My name is Kathy and I live in a regional town in South Australia where I spend my days crafting.
I have 4 cats and a dog called Cooper so there’s always something happening here.
Upcycling is a big passion of mine and I’m currently working my way through bags and bags of clothing that would have ended up in landfill. I’ll post an entire page about my plans for this fabric, buttons, zippers, pockets, just everything!!
There’s never enough hours in the days and it’s not uncommon finding me just doing one more row or stitching just another colour at 2am. I’m sure many of you can relate.
Having a passion for textiles started when I was about 18, when I learnt to spin and weave, making so many handmade tea towels, some of which I still have today, 40 years later. Then came dyeing yarn and cross stitch fabric. Patchwork slipped in there about 10 years ago which opened up a whole new world for me. Knitting and crochet just seemed a natural progression from dyeing yarn and I love making plushies or what some call amigurumi. I like to think outside the box and always seem to end up making some amazing things.
Upcycling came about when I saw a ton of sheets and quilt covers at thrift stores that nobody was buying, so of course I came home with quite a few bags and went about researching what to do with them and came up with turning them into rag rugs. Amazing to look at and wash up great!
I never walk into a thrift store and see things as they are, I’m always thinking about what they could be repurposed into. Tea cups with saucers, egg cups, shot glasses and pretty little dishes became pin cushions. There’s a selection of them available to purchase which make the most amazing gifts for a friend or yourself.
So there’s so much more to share with you, but if you have a question about anything I make, please don’t hesitate to ask.
Kat…
